The critically injured Dulles Town Center mall victim said he was shooting a YouTube prank video when he was shot.

After one bullet pierced his stomach and liver, Tanner Cook, 21, remained in the intensive care unit with his mother the next day.

Court documents and a Loudoun County General District Court judge identified Tanner Cook during Alan Colie's arraignment.

On Sunday, Colie was arrested for aggravated malicious wounding, using a firearm in a felony, and discharging a firearm in a building.

After surgery, Cook spoke to WUSA9 exclusively. Classified Goons creator Cook said he was joking with Colie for another video.

“I was playing a prank and a simple practical joke, and this guy didn't take it very well,” said Tanner Cook.

His friend recorded Colie allegedly pulling out his gun. The family said the footage is evidence.

Tanner Cook added, “He didn't say anything to me”.

Tanner Cook's father called the shooting shocking and unnecessary despite the circumstances.

“They were making a video at the mall and trying to have fun with people and this guy wasn't having fun,” said Jeramy Cook. “There was a phone around him and they were interviewing him, and he didn't like it and he pulled out his gun and shot my son.”

Tanner Cook said his family is supporting his son through God and faith. He even denied hating Colie.

“We need restoration, healing, and unity,” said Jeramy Cook. I hope this young man finds God. Our son could have died, but God saved him. My son is God's."

“It's surreal,” said his grandfather Mike Cook, “but we live on faith and not fear.”

Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall said she received many calls from worried constituents. She is concerned about the victim and witnesses.

Randall said, “I've heard from so many of my constituents and they're traumatised. People have secondary trauma from this and may never walk back into this mall.”

Tanner Cook will continue making videos despite his injuries.
