Sherwood “Herb” Edelman (November 5, 1933 – July 21, 1996) was an American actor who appeared on stage and in films as well as on television. For his work on television, he has been nominated for an Emmy Award on two separate occasions. During the course of The Golden Girls, he was most known for his portrayal as Stanley Zbornak, the ex-husband of Dorothy Zbornak (played by Beatrice Arthur), who was a major character in the show. He also had a recurrent part in the hospital drama St. Elsewhere, which aired in the 1980s.
