George Santos, who was born on July 22, 1988, has a varied upbringing. Whether Santos was born in Brazil or the United States is still a matter of debate. When he announced in 2023 that he would like to run for office again, his campaign referred to him as a “first-generation American.” At first, there was some confusion regarding the term’s definition. 

Because he was either born in the country to immigrant parents or naturalized, Santos’s campaign made it clear that he considers himself to be a first-generation American. Through his parents, Santos has asserted his claim to dual citizenship in the US and Brazil. A Brazilian court identified him as an American in 2013.

George Santos joined his mother during a time between 2008 and 2011 when she was living in Brazil. It has been claimed that Santos competed as a drag queen in Brazilian beauty pageants at the time under the stage name Kitara Ravache. He acknowledged taking part in festivals and having fun while a young person, despite his vehement denial of these accusations and claim that they are untrue.

As the first LGBT non-incumbent Republican elected to federal office, George Santos, a member of the Republican Party, was elected as the U.S. Representative for New York’s 3rd congressional district in 2022. Santos’ political career has been hampered by controversies and issues relating to his background, employment history, criminal history, financial situation, ethnicity, and other factors.
