Brantley Keith Gilbert was born on January 20, 1985 in Jefferson, Georgia. He comes from a family of four; his father’s name is Keith Gilbert while his mother’s name is Becky. The singer also has a brother named Kolby. Gilbert spent his formative years in Jefferson growing up listening to country music. He was introduced to rock music at a young age and fell in love with artists such as REM, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The B-52’s.
He therefore developed a passion for both genres; and began writing and composing music at the age of 13. Despite his passion for music, Brantley Gilbert did not give up his studies. After high school, he attended Georgia College and State University, where he majored in counseling. He also worked as a counselor at a Georgia elementary school.

Brantley Gilbert was forced to seek solace in music after being involved in a car accident at the age of 19. The accident was somehow his fault as he was driving drunk. Luckily, he was able to escape with his life but suffered some serious injuries including memory loss. This hampered his academic pursuits and the only thing that got him through this period was writing songs.
After Gilbert fully recovered, he moved to Nashville, where he signed with Warner Chappell Publishing. He wrote lyrics for other country artists such as Jason Aldean and Colt Ford. In his spare time he worked on his album and performed locally. All Gilbert’s hard work paid off in 2009 when he released his first full-length album – The Modern Age Prodigal Son . His second album, Halfway to Heaven , dropped in 2010 and chronicled his near-death experience.
Gilbert’s first two albums were only mild successes, but he didn’t despair. Rather, he switched record labels and released his second album, Halfway to Heaven, in 2011. Halfway to Heaven was a huge hit this time. Two of the singles; “Country Must Be Country Wide” and “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do” topped the country charts and later went platinum. Since that big break, Brantley Gilbert hasn’t looked back. He has other successful albums like The Way I Am (2014) and The Devil Doesn’t Sleep (2017).
